Holy Fuck! #2 on the BC Bestsellers List!

Canadian band Holy Fuck with their signed copy of Adventures in Solitude.

Ok, it’s my site so I can swear right? Especially when it ties in one of my favourite Canadian bands AND the news that Adventures in Solitude has now gone to #2 on the BC Bestsellers List?! That is a shock, I truly never ever expected that, so thanks to the BC book buyers! Added to that is that most of the larger book stores in Vancouver are reportedly sold out, so if you’re looking for a copy hit up the indies: Sitka Books on West 4th (across from Zulu Records), the People’s Co-op on Commercial Drive, and various Book Warehouses around town.

For those outside of Vancouver, I’m very curious to hear if you’ve seen copies of the book in your favourite bookstore or record shop. Please let me know by leaving a comment here, and please do request it if you don’t see it. All the best, see you on the tour I hope!

(Thanks to my pals in Holy Fuck for being today’s blog models when they stopped by CBC Radio 3 on their current North American tour! And while that shot is blurry, the answer is YES, bassist Punchy IS rocking a Canadian Tuxedo… aka a Prince Edward IslandĀ Sunday Best).

Happy Thanksgiving from Desolation Sound!

That's a hell of a wedding gift!

Thanks to all who came to the two Adventures in Solitude book launch parties both in Vancouver on Thursday and then Lund on Friday. They were way beyond my expectations! I was able to hold it together in Vancouver but actually got emotional at the beginning of the Desolation Sound launch. Lots of locals showed up, some of whom are in the book, and it overwhelmed me a little bit. Thanks to all the musicians who helped out with the launches… Said the Whale in Vancouver, Ben Bouchard in Lund, and my lovely wife Jill, who surprised me with a brand new song called “The End of the Road”. Thanks also to Amanda at the Museum of Vancouver and to Evelyn and Nancy in Lund. Check out the Vancouver Is Awesome review and video of the event here.

Jill and I spent the next couple of days at the cabin for the last time in 2010, and had a gorgeous Sunday, watching three huge sea lions cavort in the waters just off shore. Jill and I closed up the cabin for the winter, draining all the pipes, bailing out the toilet, hauling in the kayaks, stowing the picnic table and BBQ. Always a drag, but now it’s time to go back on tour which for me will be the first time since 2004 when The Smugglers did our last tour through California.

I’m going coast to coast, and you can check out all the dates here. If you’re in Vancouver and missed the launch, I’ll be doing a redux at the Vancouver Public Library on Monday November 1st.

Oh Baby! And Best Seller List, Too!

"@xcanuck" in Washington DC reads his copy to his little one... who is clearly enraptured.

Well, all is can say is THANKS. I’ve just been informed that Adventures in Solitude has hit the Top 10 of the BC Books Bestseller List. THANKS. The pre-ordered books are starting to arrive and I’ve been hearing a lot of nice things from nice people all over the place. The media has been kind to me so far as well, which is hugely appreciated. Thanks so much to my longtime friend Jian Ghomeshi for the interview on Q the other morning. That show truly has a reach – I heard from people coast to coast after it aired. If you missed it, you can hear the interview here.

There’s also been several humbling print interviews and reviews, some of which you can read here:

The Vancouver book launch is TODAY at the Museum of Vancouver! Doors open at 6:30pm, “show” starts at 7pm, I’ll tell stories, Jill Barber and Said the Whale will play, and yes there will be beer and wine at a cash bar. The whole thing will be over before 9pm! Desolation Sound launch on Friday night at Nancy’s Bakery!
